Mission Statement
The Newburyport Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) facilitates an inclusive partnership of students, parents, educators and the community to ensure the delivery of appropriate services to students with a wide range of physical, emotional and academic needs and disabilities.
To that end, the SEPAC works to:
- Advise the School Committee on matters that pertain to the education and safety of students with disabilities;
- Meet regularly with school officials to participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the district’s special education programs;
- Assist the district in coordinating the presentation of at least one workshop annually within the school district on the rights of students and their parents and guardians under state and federal special education laws.
Some of our goals and objectives are as follows:
- Provide parents access to relevant information, regulations and laws, training and emotional support.
- Work with the school community to continue to improve the educational opportunities within and without our schools in order to promote improved educational outcomes for children with disabilities.
- Promote communication and programs within the community in an effort to provide greater understanding, acceptance, compassion and inclusion of children with special needs.
- Stay up-to-date on public policy issues that impact all education in Massachusetts and respond as necessary.
